As the feisty and reactionary maid Minnie in “The Help,” Octavia Spencer lends a memorable chord to the film. She’s not going to take a whiplash, she going to dispense a smack at those who counter her – all staying within self-preserving reason. In a film chock of strong female performances, I believe that Spencer will be the standout for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s Oscars.
